Last year was the largest flu season since the 2009 pandemic with a record of more than 1,000 flu related deaths. Annual influenza vaccination continues to be the most important measure to prevent influenza and its complications.
1. Who is eligible for this vaccine?
People aged 65 years and over (new flu vaccines for over 65’s)
All children aged from 6 months to less than 5 years of age (funded for the first time in 2018 by QLD Health)
Pregnant women, at any stage of pregnancy
All people aged from six months of age with a chronic medical condition such as asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease, etc.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are 15 years of age and over
2. How much the vaccine costs?
Free. Funded by QLD Health.
3. How to book an appointment?
Either online via excella.com.au and book for flu vaccination clinic (not the standard GP appointment) or give us a call on 07 3106 6040 and ask the attending receptionist for flu vaccination clinic. Please do not book with the doctor.
4. Is this the trivalent or quadrivalent flu vaccine?
This year’s (2018) (apart from over 65’s new vaccine) is quadrivalent vaccine and it will protect you against following four virus strains:
Influenza A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)-like virus
Influenza A/Singapore/INFIMH-16-0019/2016 (H3N2)-like virus
Influenza B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus
Influenza B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus
5. What’s the new vaccine for over 65’s?
Two flu vaccines are now available for free to Australians aged 65 and over (FluAd and FluZone) capable of generating a stronger immune response.
